Tax Assessor's Office MISSION STATEMENT It is the mission of the Barrington Tax Assessor’s Office to collect and maintain accurate data regarding homes, businesses, motor vehicles, and personal property located in the Town of Barrington. Accurate data results in fair assessments for all taxpayers in Town. The Assessor’s Office encourages you to go to the Vision Appraisal website http://data.visionappraisal.com/BarringtonRI/ and review your property record card. Should you find any errors or omissions, please contact our office and we will schedule an appointment to re-inspect your home (at your convenience) and make any appropriate changes to your property record card. REVALUATION The Town of Barrington (like all other cities/towns in the state of Rhode Island) does not update property values on an annual basis. Rhode Island state law mandates that assessments are to be updated every three years. The Town is currently in a statistical revaluation year (value as of 12/31/2008); the last full revaluation was completed in 2005. Vision Appraisal has completed their informal hearing process and presented their final value estimates to the Tax Assessor’s Office. Any value disputes must now be submitted to the Tax Assessor’s Office. APPEAL INFORMATION The Town Council has asked the Tax Assessor’s Office to accept appeal applications starting May 28th 2009. Appeals will be accepted up to December 28th 2009. Appeal applications are available in the Tax Assessor’s Office between the hours of 8:30am and 4:30pm, or may be printed from this website (see IMPORTANT FORMS; “Application For Appeal Of Property Taxes 2009-2010”). Please complete the form in full, as incomplete forms will be returned. A purchase in 2009 is not in and of itself a valid reason to appeal your assessment, as the revaluation was based on sales from 2008 and 2007.
