Barrington Town Beach

Bay Road. Four acres of beachfront overlooking Narragansett Bay. Lifeguards on duty from June to September. Parking available to residents only with season parking passes sold at gatehouse.

Town Ordinances for Barrington Beach

  • Parking at the beach is limited to Barrington residents and Barrington tax payers only.
  • Each car must have a parking sticker placed on its right rear window. Beach stickers are non-transferable.
  • Each motor cycle must have a resident parking sticker placed on the the vehicle. Beach stickers are non-transferable.
  • The cost of a resident parking sticker is $15.00 for the season (June-August). Residents 65 and over are exempt from the fee.
  • Please observe the STOP sign at the entrance to the beach.
  • Trash in - trash out. Each person is responsible to remove his/her trash from the beach.
  • All vehicles entering the beach shall proceed slowly and directly to a parking area and shall remain parked until leaving. There shall be no cross traffic riding for pleasure or meandering within the beach area. This applies to all motor driven vehicles including motorcycles and scooters.
  • There shall be no launching of boats at the beach except to the extreme EAST and not larger than a Sunfish or similar type boat.
  • No automobiles with trailers attached shall be allowed to park in the parking area of the beach.
  • No swimming shall be allowed outside the bouyed area set aside for this purpose.
  • No use of underwater breathing device including air-breathing snorkel shall be allowed unless properly supervised by a qualified instructor.
  • No air mattress, air-filled floats, or foam type non-sinkable floats may be used within the bouyed area, if, in the opinion of the lifeguard on duty, it creates a nuisance or danger to the participants or other persons.
  • No ball playing or other activity shall be allowed either in the water or on the beach , if, in the opinion of the lifeguard on duty, it creates a nuisance or danger to the participants or other persons.
  • The parking areas will be closed at 9:00pm and all motor vehicles must be out of the area before the stated time.
  • No horses, dogs, motor bikes or other motorized vehicles are allowed on the beach at any time.
  • Possession and /or consumption of alcoholic beverages at the beach is prohibited.
  • Use of glass containers is prohibited.
  • No grills or fires for cooking are allowed on the beach.
  • The establishment of bonfires within the confines of the beach is prohibited.
  • Smoking is restricted to the designated areas of the beach.

Any person violating any provision shall pay a fine not to exceed fifty dollars ($50.00) for each offense and may be subject to restrction from the use of the beach for the rest of the season and forfeiture of his/her beach sticker.

Haines Memorial Park

Narragansett Avenue. Facilities include 75 acres of athletic fields and picnic sites along with a boat dock and lauching ramp. Permit required for use of fields.

Osamequin Nature Trail

Located along Hundred Acre Cove off County Road. A conservation area maintained by the town consisting of 38 acres of nature trails and a bird sanctuary.

Veterans Memorial Park

West Street. A 245 acre town park bordering historic Brickyard Pond. Facilities include a baseball field, picnic areas, and toilet facilities as well as fishing in season.

Walker Farm

A town park located off County Road along Hundred Acre Cove. Thirty acres of open land including boating and fishing accesses. Permit required for some activities.

East Bay Bike Path

A bike trail running from East Providence to Bristol using the railroad bed. Open to bicycles and foot traffic.

Peck Center Playground

Situated behind Town Hall, it was built by town volunteers 1985


Public Boat Launching Areas

Haines Memorial Park - Narragansett Avenue. A good concrete ramp with parking available for access to Bullock's Cove and the lower reach of the Providence River.

Walker Farm - An access to Hundred Acre Cove from County Road. Parking.

County Road - A concrete ramp with access to the Barrington River from the rear of the police station. No parking available. For residents by permit only.

Barrington Town Beach - Bay Road. Parking available. Restricted to small craft. This access to upper Narragansett Bay is known for a severe chop during a southerly breeze.

Latham Park - Bay Spring. Parking Available.

Fishing

RI Saltwater Anglers Association

Salt Water. Game fish such as striped bass, blue fish, snapper blues, scup, and winter and summer flounder are caught in Narragansett Bay, Mount Hope Bay, and in areas such as the Kickemuitand Warren Rivers. No license is required, but if you intend to sell your catch, a sportsfishing license is required by the RI Dept. of Environmental Management.

Shellfishing. Resident shellfishing licenses are available through the Dept. of Environmental Management, Div. of Enforcement, 277-2284. Non-residents may acquire limited shellfishing licenses from Andrade's Bait & Shellfish, 649 Metacom Avenue, Warren 245-3640.

Fresh Water. Licenses are required and may be obtained at Town Hall or from authorized agents. The state stocks trout in Barrington's Tiffany Pond. Other popular fresh water spots in the area include the Kickemuit River in Warren, Brickyard Pond and Echo Lake, both located in Barrington.

Tennis

Public courts are available to townspeople at the High School, the Middle School and at Kent Street.

YMCA - Members only

Tennis clubs are within a short distance for those who wish to play tennis throughout the year.
