The Barrington Peck Center for Adult Enrichment (formerly the Senior Center) is located in the Lower Level of the Peck Community Center (Public Library building), 281 County Road. Mission of the Center for Adult Enrichment
The mission of the Barrington Center for Adult Enrichment is to provide opportunities for:
Social and recreational activities
Information and referral
The Peck Center for Adult Enrichment's is open to any individual 50 years and older or any age adult with disabilities.
There is no membership to participate in the lunch program.
The Center for Adult Enrichment is handicapped accessible.
Membership runs from July through June.
Membership at no cost for Barrington residents.
Membership is $12 per year for non-residents.
The Center for Adult Enrichment sponsors a variety of programs including:
Personal enrichment classes such as: Painting, chorus, computer classes, art history, carving, craft classes, AARP safe driving class, consumer classes, language classes, collaboration with the Barrington library offerings, the Barrington Preservation Society, knitting group, band music. Many activities are free.
Social and recreational programs including: Scrabble club, bridge groups, whist, bingo, discussion groups, seminars, flower arranging, parties, trips, birthday celebrations, annual picnic at Colt State Park, weekday lunch (a 5-course meal with 2 entree choices), special lunch and brunch monthly.
Sponsored by EBCAP, catered by Cranston Senior Center, meals are served Mondays through Fridays at 11:40 am. Menus can be picked up at the Center or viewed on-line on the Town website and they can also be found in the monthly newsletter. Reservations must be made before noon the prior day at the Center, in person or by calling 247-1926. There is a requested donation of $3.00.
Published monthly, the Center for Adult Enrichment Newsletter contains information on activities and programs, information of special interest to older adults, a calendar of events and a monthly menu. The Newsletter may be viewed at the top of this page.
The Center for Adult Enrichment's bus is free and available to Town Senior Citizens on weekdays for transportation to and from the Center, and weekly shopping trips. Reservations must be made 24 hours prior to the day and time transportation is required.
Health and Wellbeing
The Center, through its association with area agencies, provides many services including: exercise classes and fitness room, yoga, line dancing, blood pressure checks, flu clinic through VNS, glaucoma screening through Saving Sight of RI, and collaborative programs with the Bayside Family YMCA.
Senior Services Advisory Board
The Senior Services Advisory Board (SSAB) is a seven-member board charged with supporting the Center's programs, policies and goals. This Board advocates for senior issues in Barrington.
Friends of the Barrington Senior Center
A non-profit organization formed to assist the Town in funding Center for Adult Enrichment projects, especially the Outreach Program. There is a membership drive every Fall. They have provided funding for our new computer lab, our van, the fitness room and the Center for Adult Enrichment's new data management system, My Senior Center. Please see attached list of Friends of the Barrington Senior Center.
Available to help with applications for RIPAE, heating assistance, food stamps, Medicare and Medicaid, etc. The Center also installs and maintains an Emergency Dialer program with the Police & Fire Department. Please call 401-247-1926 if you have any questions.
