Village Center Streetscape & Wayfinding Improvements


Update (6/21/17): The contractor has finished installing most of the improvements on Wood Avenue, including sidewalks, curbing, drainage, etc. They have begun work on West Street and Cottage Street. Final pavement throughout the project area ill take place after the other work (curbing, sidewalks, etc.) is complete later this year.

Update (6/14/16): The Town has sent letters to property owners in the project area. As of June 2016, the Town's engineer was working with National Grid to coordinate design of storm-water improvements as related to the location of gas main and gas service lines. Waseca Avenue has been removed from the project (no timetable for completion). Project is expected to be advertised for bid in June or July of 2016, with construction starting later in 2016.

Update (8/12/15): The Town's engineering consultant, BETA Group, is working on the engineering details. Construction is anticipated to start in the spring of 2016.

Update (6/10/15): The plans, as presented at the workshop on May 20, are available here for review. These plans are being revised taking into consideration public input received at the workshop.

Update (5/19/15): On Wednesday, May 20, 2015, the Town hosted a public workshop in the Council Chamber at Town Hall, 7 to 9 p.m. where the engineering consultant, BETA Group of Lincoln, RI, presented the latest plans and answer questions.

Project Description: The Town developed a "Barrington Village Center Connectivity Study" that proposed improvements to the Town's infrastructure in the "Village Center" - including Maple Avenue, Wood Avenue, West Street, Waseca Avenue and Cottage Street. The study also recommended new "wayfinding" signage to help people find their way around the area.

In 2014, Town voters approved a $1.6 million bond for construction of the improvements as depicted in the Connectivity Study. BETA Group of Lincoln, RI, was hired to complete the plans for construction following a competitive bidding process for engineering services.
