Building and Zoning Office
The Building and Zoning Office, included in the Department of Planning, Building and Resiliency, issues permits and completes inspections to assure that codes and zoning regulations are met and proper plans and documents are completed.

E-permitting is now available through Viewpoint.
Applicants can apply for a range of permits such as Building, Demolition, Electrical, Mechanical, Plumbing, Solar, and Moving as well as applying for Chicken/Hen registrations, Zoning Certificates, or filing a Citizens Complaint.
Please allow 15 business days for permit approval and issuance.
Please be advised that effective Tuesday, 10/19/2021, a $100 refundable fee will be added to all electrical, mechanical, and plumbing permits. The refundable fee is paid at the time you pay for the permit, and is refunded back to the applicant of the permit upon completion of a passing final inspection within a year of the permit being issued.
For electrical permits: Please Note That The 2020 NEC Electrical Code Has Been Approved By The State Of Rhode Island. Permits Pulled After January 31st Will Be Under The 2020 NEC Code.
New users must register for a ViewPointCloud account in order to submit permit applications electronically. This account is valid with any Rhode Island town utilizing the ViewPointCloud e-permitting system.
Paper applications for the above permits are no longer accepted. Materials must be uploaded directly to ViewpointCloud; this is the responsibility of the applicant.
