PROPOSED AMENDMENTS TO LAND DEVELOPMENT AND SUBDIVISION REGULATIONS 

NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING

The Barrington Planning Board will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at 7:00 p.m. in Council Chamber (283 County Road, Barrington, RI 02806) to proposed statutory, housekeeping amendments to the Land Development and Subdivision Regulations.

The proposed amendments reflect recent amendments to state law governing review and approval of development applications (see P.L. 2024, chapter 292, containing numerous amendments to Title 45, Chapter 23, the Development Review Act, and P.L. 2024, chapter 298, setting forth requirements for construction and/or improvement guarantees). The amendments contain numerous revisions to Chapter 200, Land Development and Subdivision Regulations, including: 

  • Article II: Definitions;
  • Article IV: Application Procedures;
  • Article VI: Minor Land Development or Subdivision;
  • Article VII: Major Land Development or Subdivision;
  • Article VII: General Procedures;
  • Article XI: Guaranty of Performance and Inspection of Improvements; 
  • Article XIV: Appeals;
  • Article XVIII: Development Plan Review; and
  • Article XIX: Unified Development Review.

All interested parties may review, examine, and obtain a copy of the proposed amendments by contacting the Barrington Planning, Building, and Resilience Department between the following hours: Monday: 8:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.; Tuesday through Thursday: 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; and Friday: 8:30 a.m. to noon. The amendments will be available on the Town’s website at barrington.ri.gov/planningboard.  

Interested persons wishing to offer comment must attend the hearing in person or submit written comments to the Planning Board no later than the close of the public hearing. The proposed amendments may be altered or amended prior to the close of the public hearing without further advertising, as a result of further study or because of the views expressed at the public hearing. Any such alteration must be presented for comment in the course of said hearing.
